Simon Hurley’s Lunar Paste – New Colors PLUS 6 ways to use Lunar Paste to Make Cards

Hello Crafty Friends.

Today I’m sharing two new colors of Lunar Paste that Simon Hurley has released to add to his large collection of Lunar Paste. These colors are called Breakup Blue and Love Struck.

Lunar Paste is a creamy and very colorful paste with an opaque metallic shine. You can use it with stencils or directly to your cardstock with a pallet knife or blending brush. Lunar paste goes on wet, but drys permanently.

There are many ways to use Lunar Paste and I’m going to show you six ways that I like to use Lunar Paste when I’m making cards. I will make five cards.

If you would like to see how I made my cards, you can watch my video below or on YouTube.

For my cards, I used Scrapbook.com’s brand new Heavy Weight Mixed Media Paper Pad. The paper pad comes in white and black cardstock and is perfect for all kinds of mixed media projects. The paper is thick (400 GSMs) and very smooth!

Technique 1 – Use Lunar Paste with Stencils, White Cardstock, and Ink-Blending Brush

One of my favorite techniques is using Lunar Paste with stencils. For Card 1, I used the Scrapbook.com Rose Bloom Stencil along with an ink-blending tool and applied the Breakup Blue Lunar Paste to the center of the roses and the Love Struck Lunar Paste to the petals. I used the white mixed media paper for this technique. Using an ink-blending tool to apply Lunar Paste through stencils adds a very thin layer of paste through the stencil and the shine is amazing! I added the Scrapbook.com Layered Roses dies to the card because I thought they complemented the stencil perfectly.

Technique 2 – Use Lunar Paste with Stencils, Black Cardstock, and Ink-Blending Brush

Just like with the first technique, I used the Love Struck Lunar Paste and Breakup Blue Lunar Paste to the same Rose Bloom Stencil, however, the difference is the black cardstock. It doesn’t matter what color cardstock you use, the Lunar Paste always stays the same color that is in the jar regardless of the color of cardstock.

Technique 3 – Use Lunar Paste with Stencils and a Palette Knife

For my next card, I used the Scrapbook.com Scattered Hearts Stencil and applied the Love Struck Lunar Paste with a palette knife. Using a palette knife will make the Lunar Paste have a little more dimension than if you used a blending brush like I did in the first two examples.

Technique 4: Apply Lunar Paste to Inked Backgrounds

Lunar Paste can also be applied on top of inked backgrounds. For this card, I inked a piece of the white mixed media cardstock with Scrapbook.com’s Pink Flamingo ink. Next, I used the Scrapbook.com Daisy Stencil to add the Lunar Paste on top of the inked background. I created an ombre look by adding the Love Struck Lunar Paste first and then the Breakup Blue Lunar Paste. Just like with the first two cards, I used a blending tool for this technique because I only wanted a thin layer of Lunar Paste on my card. I added the Scrapbook.com Love You dies for the sentiment.

Techniques 5 and 6: Use Lunar Paste with Layered Stencils and Diecutting

My next card has two techniques. For the first one, I’m using a two layer stencil to apply both ink and Lunar Paste together. This technique can be done with any layered stencil, whether it’s a 2-layer, 3-layer, or even 4-layer stencil. One tip that I have for you is to apply the Lunar Paste to the last stencil in the set and apply inks to the other stencils. This way, you only need to wait for the last stenciled design to dry. You can apply the Lunar Paste to any stencil in the set, however, if doing so, you must make sure the Lunar Paste is completely dry before adding the next stencil or else it will smudge on your cardstock. Applying Lunar Paste to the very last stencil in the set will just make it more efficient because you only need to wait for the last stenciled layer to dry.

I used the Scrapbook.com Heart Patterns Stencil which has two layers. For the first layer, I used the Scrapbook.com Candy Shop Pink Ink for the heart shapes and then added the Breakup Blue Lunar Paste to the second stencil.

The next technique is to add Lunar Paste with an ink blending tool to a piece of cardstock and smooth it on like ink. You can make some really nice backgrounds doing this. One dry, you can die cut the cardstock with any die. For my card, I used the Scrapbook.com Love You dies. I love how big these letters are. Look at all of that beautiful metallic shine with the ombre effect….Gorgeous!
