Distress Spray Stains – Autumn Cards

Hi Crafty Friends!

Today I’m sharing two autumn cards using distress spray stains. Spray stains are such an easy way to get a lot of ink on your cardstock for creating backgrounds, die cutting, and more.  The distress spray stains come in all of the same colors as the distress inks, however, they are in a liquid spray.  I picked up several different colors and will be using some of them for my cards today.

Fall Card with Distress Spray Stains - Scrapbook.com Hi Fall Stamp - Scrapbook.com Autumn Breeze Stencil - Scrapbook.com Autumn Leaves Die

Watch my video on YouTube or below to see how I made my cards.

I started by adding several colors of the Distress Spray Stains to watercolor cardstock. Between applications, I dried the backgrounds and then added more ink. I love the look of the distress spray stains on the cardstock. It gives such depth and texture to the cardstock. Even though I used the same colors for each piece of cardstock, every background is different.

Distress Spray Stain Backgrounds for Fall or Autumn Cards

Next, I turned those backgrounds into cards. For the card below, I used one of the backgrounds with the Scrapbook.com Autumn Breeze stencil. I spritzed the stencil with water and added it to the inked background. The water moved the ink around on the cardstock, leaving the open area of the stencil without water which made those areas look darker so you can see the shape of the leaves and pumpkins. I used another background to die cut it with the Scrapbook.com Autumn Leave dies. I added a sentiment from the Scrapbook.com Hi Fall Stamp Set.

Fall Card with Distress Spray Stains - Scrapbook.com Hi Fall Stamp - Scrapbook.com Autumn Breeze Stencil - Scrapbook.com Autumn Leaves Die

For the card below, I added the leftover die cut leaves to a card to create the look of pattern paper and added a sentiment from the Scrapbook.com Hi Fall Stamp Set in the middle. I love the look of the die cut leaves against the white background. I think the white background really makes the leaves “pop”!

If you would like to see how I made my card, be sure to check out my video below or on YouTube.

For my card, I used the Mitten Shaker die set. I filled the shaker with the Peppermint clay confetti and the Winter Snowflakes clay confetti. I added the mittens to a snowflake stenciled background that I made with the Layered Snowflakes Stencil. I used Tumbled Glass, Broken China, and Speckled Egg distress oxide inks on the stencil. I added the Winter Wishes Script die for the sentiment. I also added a snowflake die cut shape to the mitten and added a Ruby Red Pearl to the center.

My card measurements are as follows:

Snowflake Stenciled Background – 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
Blue Cardstock – 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″

Stepping Up Layering Stencils | Pretty Pink Posh Christmas/Winter Release & Blog Hop

Hello crafty friends.

I’m so excited to be joining Pretty Pink Posh to celebrate their holiday release. This release is all about Christmas and the winter season.  To celebrate their release, Pretty Pink Posh is having a blog hop where you have a chance to win one of three $30 gift certificates to the Pretty Pink Posh shop.

Pretty Pink Posh Blog Hop - October 2022 - Christmas and Winter Release

Be sure to read all the way to the end of this post to find out more about the blog hop, see some of the cards I made with this release, and find links to all of the supplies I used to make my cards.

If you would like to see the entire release, you can watch my video below or on YouTube.

For the blog hop, I’m sharing four cards that I made with some of the new products from Pretty Pink Posh’s new release. For my cards, I use some stepped-up stenciling techniques to add glitter and shine to my stenciled cards.

Taking Your Stencils to the Next Level - Adding Glitter and Shine - Christmas Stencils - Pretty Pink Posh - Layered Coffee Cups Stencil - Layered Mittens Stencil - Layered Christmas Lights Stencil - Layered Winter Foliage StencilIf you would like to see how I made all of my cards, be sure to check out my video below or on YouTube.

Card 1

For my first card, I used the Layered Coffee Cups stencil. For Layer A, I used Scrapbook.com Pine ink. For Layer B, I added Ground Espresso Distress Oxide ink to everything except for the coffee cup sleeve.  I added Versamark ink for the coffee cup sleeve and then I sprinkle red embossing powder over the sleeves of the coffee cups and heat set them.

For Layer C, I inked the coffee steam with Scrapbook.com Fog ink. Next, I added Versarmark ink to the hearts and bottom of the coffee mugs. I use red embossing powder to cover these areas and then heat set them. Next, I reapplied stencil Layer C, adding Versamark ink to the stars. I used Brutus Monroe Gilded embossing powder and heat set it. I just love the look of the embossing powder on the stenciled background. It adds such a pretty shine to the stenciled background.

I used a rectangle die to cut the coffee cup background and added it to a piece of white cardstock.

Using the snowflake die from the Mitten Shaker die set, I die cut 10 white snowflakes and glued them around the outside edge of a piece of red cardstock. I added the coffee cup layer to the top of the red snowflake paper.

I stamped a sentiment from the Holiday Sentiments stamp set and cut it out with a banner die from the Holiday Envelopes die set. I layered the white banner onto a red banner and offset it.

I added some Ruby Red Pearls to my card. My finished card is an A2 size card which measures 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

Card 2

Layer A:  Scrapbook.com Gingerbread ink
Layer B:  Scrapbook.com Pine ink
Layer C:  Scrapbook.com Cardinal Red ink

Pretty Pink Posh - Layered Winter Foliage Stencil Card - taking your stencils to the next level adding glitter and shine

After I inked all layers of the stencil, I added each stencil layer back on top of my cardstock and added Brutus Monroe Alabaster Glitter Glaze to each stencil layer. After applying the glitter glaze to each layer, I set it aside to fully dry before reapplying the glitter glaze to the next stencil layer. The glitter glaze adds so much sparkle to the stenciled background. It even resembles snow sitting on top of the leaves and pinecones.

I used a rectangle die to cut the stenciled background and added it to a piece of red cardstock. I stamped the Pine Wreath Stamp in Scrapbook.com Pine ink onto green cardstock and die cut it with the coordinating dies. I brushed some Brutus Monroe Alabaster Glitter Glaze all over the wreath. I added the Pine Wreath Stamp Set to the top of the card along with some acorns and a bow. I added the word Joy to the wreath. I used the Scrapbook.com Pops of Color in Rudolph Red to add berries to the wreath.

I love all of the glitter and sparkle added to the stencil and wreath.

Thank You Autumn Scene Card | Pretty Pink Posh

Hello crafty friends.

I love to make scene cards and today I’m sharing a thank you autumn scene card using several new products from the Pretty Pink Posh September release which is all about autumn. To celebrate the new autumn release, Pretty Pink Posh is having an Instagram hop where you have a chance to win a $30 gift certificate to the Pretty Pink Posh shop. More information about the Instagram hop is at the end of this blog post.

Pretty Pink Posh Autumn Card - thank you card - happy mail card - autumn scene card - fall envelopes - fall borders

When I first saw the Mouse Friends stamp set, I thought the mice would be so cute holding the big envelope from the Fall Envelopes stamp set. I love how the autumn leaves look like they are flying out of the envelope. Of course, an autumn card wouldn’t be complete without pumpkins so I used the pumpkin border from the Fall Borders stamp set and colored the pumpkins in various autumn colors.

If you would like to see how I made my card, be sure to check out my video below or on YouTube.

Pretty Pink Posh - Autumn Card - Happy Mail Card - Fall Card - Pumpkin border - Card with Mice

For this card, I started by coloring my images using Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens. The colors I used are listed below. Next, I cut a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and used Distress Oxide inks to ink blend the background. I used Shabby Shutters ink on the lower inch of the cardstock. I used Tumbled Glass ink on the top.  Next, I assembled the stamped images onto my card panel. Finally, I added the card panel to an A2 size card base. If you want to see how I made this card, click here to watch the video on YouTube.

Using Nesting Dies to Make Shaker Cards – Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

Hi Crafty Friends!

I had so much fun teaching at the Scrapbook.com SBC Fest 2022! There were so many amazing instructors teaching classes during the SBC Fest two-day virtual event. If you missed it, don’t worry.  You can view all of the SBC FEST videos here — CLICK HERE

During my session, I taught a class demonstrating how to use how to use nesting dies to make shaker cards. I demonstrated how to use basic shapes such as rectangles and circles to make shaker cards and I also demonstrated how to use not so basic shapes to make shaker cards. I made three shaker cards in my video and I’m sharing them in this post.

You can view my instructional video here.  (Once on the page, simply scroll down to Day 2 to find my name which will link directly to my video.)

The first way, and probably the most common way, to make a shaker card from nesting dies is to die cut a frame. To do this, simply take two nesting dies, one slightly larger than the other, and layer them together. This will give you a frame. You can do this with nesting dies of any shape — rectangles, circles, squares, just to name a few.

Shaker Card with Rectangle Dies - Pink and Main Be a Mermaid - Scallop Stencil - Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

For this card, I stenciled a piece of cardstock and then used the Spellbinders Precision Layering Dies and die cut the second largest die and third largest die to create the frame. After diecutting the frame, I added a piece of acetate to the back. Next, I added double-sided adhesive foam tape to the back of the frame. Finally, add the shaker pieces to the top of the card base, added the frame on top, and added my stamped images. The stamped images are from Pink and Main’s Be a Mermaid stamp set.

Shaker Card with Rectangle Dies - Pink and Main Be a Mermaid - Scallop Stencil - Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

The second way to use nesting dies to make shaker cards is to die cut the nesting dies out of the top layer of your card panel.

Shaker Card with Circle Dies - Pink and Main Be a Mermaid - Scallop Stencil - Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

For this card, I cut a card panel to 5″ x 7″. I placed three Scrapbook.com Nested Circle dies on top of the card panel.  Next, I adhered the dies to the panel with Scrapbook.com Mint Tape so they wouldn’t move when diecutting. Next, added a piece of acetate to the back of the card panel and then add double-sided adhesive foam to the back, making sure to add the foam around all of the circles and edges of the card panel.

Next, I added a stenciled background to a piece of cardstock that measures 5″ x 7″. I added stamped images and sequins to the stenciled background. Finally, I added the top panel to the stenciled panel and then added it to a 5″ x 7″ card base.

Shaker Card with Circle Dies - Pink and Main Be a Mermaid - Scallop Stencil - Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

For my next card, I made a shaker card with the shaker element being a not-so-basic shape. I used the Scrapbook.com Nested Fancy Circle Border Dies. Since the die that I used has scallops around it, I knew it would be very difficult to add foam to the back to build up the walls of the shaker. Therefore, for this card, I stacked the decorative circle die cuts to build the walls of the shaker element.

Flower Shaker Card with Nested Spring Flower Dies - Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

You can die cut as many pieces of cardstock you need to build up the walls of your shaker element. The height of your shaker element depends upon how thick the shaker pieces are. If you have thicker shaker pieces, you will want more layers of cardstock. If you have thinner shaker pieces, you will want to use less layers of cardstock.

Flower Shaker Card with Nested Spring Flower Dies - Scrapbook.com SBC Fest

For my card, I die cut the fifth largest decorative circle seven times. I glued six of the decorative circles together to create the shaker element. Next, I glued acetate to the top of the stack of decorative circles and then added the seventh circle to the top. The seventh circle is used to cover the acetate piece.

For this card, I cut a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and used Distress Oxide inks to ink blend the background. I used Shabby Shutters ink on the lower inch of the cardstock. I used Antique Linen ink in the center and Tumbled Glass ink on the top. I added the Picket Fence die where the Tumbled Glass and the Shabby Shutters ink meet. I stamped the sentiment from the Potted Sunflowers stamp set. Next, I added all of my stamped images to create this cute fall scene. Finally, I added the card panel to an A2 size card base. Halloween Stenciled Cards | Pretty Pink Posh

Hello crafty friends.

Halloween cards are so much fun to make. I made two more cards using the Pretty Pink Posh Halloween release. For both of my cards, I’m using some of Pretty Pink Posh’s brand new Halloween layered stencils. I love using stencils because they make it so easy to add a fun background to a card by just adding some ink.

For my first card, I created a cute Halloween scene using the Layered Ghosts Stencil.

For my second card, I used the Layered Pumpkins stencil.

If you would like to see how I made my cards, you can watch my video here.

Halloween Card - Pretty Pink Posh Layered Ghosts Stencil, Halloween Critters

For my first card, I started by coloring the mummy bear image from the Halloween Critters stamp set.  I colored it with Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens. The colors I used are as follows:

–Bandages – Gray, Light Gray, Blender
–Body – Brown, Blender
–Nose – Black
–Inside Ear – Beige
–Pumpkin – Orange, Bright Yellow

I also colored some of the images from the Halloween Envelopes stamp set, specifically, the candy and a spider. The colors I used are as follows:

–Jelly Bean – Carmine Red, Blender
–Candy Corn – Bright Yellow, Orange, Light Gray
–Candy – Violet
–Spider – Black, Blender

For my background, I cut a piece of cardstock to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. I added Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink to the bottom inch of the cardstock which will represent the grass for my Halloween scene. Next, I added Shaded Lilac Distress Oxide ink all over the remaining background. Finally, I added Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink around the edges.

After I inked the entire background, I was ready to do some stenciling. The stencil I used is the Layered Ghosts Stencil. I placed Stencil A over the background. This stencil is the one with the shape of the ghosts. I wanted a very subtle ghost background so I added a white pigment ink to the ghosts. Next, I placed Stencil B on the background. This stencil contains ghost faces and I added them with a black ink. Finally, I added Stencil C which contains the stars. I used Picket Fence Studios Paper Glaze in Daffodil Yellow along with a palette knife to add the glaze. The glaze not only made the stars bright yellow, but it also added some dimension to my background which I love!

After my background dried,  I stamped the fence from the Halloween Borders stamp set onto the green grassy portion of the card layer using a black ink. I added my critter from the Halloween Critters stamp set, some candy from the Halloween Envelopes stamp set, and the word “boo” from the Boo Script die set.

Finally, I added this layer to a piece of a black cardstock that I cut to 4 ¼ x 5 1/2” and then added it to an A2 card base which is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

Pretty. Pink Posh. Halloween Card - Layered Pumpkins - Halloween Critters

For my second card, I used the Pretty Pink Posh Layered Pumpkins Stencil and inked it up with Dried Marigold, Carved Pumpkin, Mowed Lawn, Antique Linen, and Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide inks onto Bristol Smooth cardstock. I added the panel to piece of gray cardstock cut to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

I colored the cute Halloween cat from the Pretty Pink Posh Halloween Critters stamp set. I colored it with Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens in the following colors:

–Cat – Beige, Brown, Blender
–Pumpkin – Orange, Blender, Bright Yellow, Mustard
–Cape, Mask – Gray, Light Gray

I used the Pretty Pink Posh Easter Circle dies to cut the green die cut behind the cat and used the Pretty Pink Posh Strip die set to cut the gray stitched strips.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Have a spooky day!

Halloween Shaker Cards | Pretty Pink Posh

Hello crafty friends.

Shaker cards are some of my favorite cards to make, and I’m so excited to share some Halloween shaker cards that I made using some new products from Pretty Pink Posh!

Halloween Shaker Cards - Pretty Pink Posh - Spider Web Shaker Card - Cauldron Shaker Card

Pretty Pink Posh released some amazing Halloween stamps, dies, and stencils. Be sure to check out the entire release in my video below.

My cards are part of a Pretty Pink Posh Instagram Hop where you have a chance to win a $30 gift certificate to their shop. For more information, check out my Instagram post on my Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/lisamearsdesigns/.

If you would like to see how I made my cards, then watch my video here.

My first card features the Spider Web Die Set, Ghosts Friends Stamp Set, and Boo Script Die Set.

Halloween Card - Pretty Pink Posh - Spider Web Shaker Card

For the card background, I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4″ x 5 1/4″. I inked the cardstock with Distress Oxide inks. I used Twisted Citron in the center, followed by Mowed Lawn, and then Rustic Wilderness along the outside edges.  Next, I mixed some black acrylic paint with water to thin it out and then flicked some of the paint onto the background. I set this aside to dry.

Next, I stamped the ghosts from the Ghost Friends stamp set onto Bristol Smooth Cardstock and colored the ghosts with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. The colors I used are as follows:

Ghosts – Light Gray/Blender (body), Sugar Almond Pink (cheeks)

Hat – Deep Violet, Violet, English Lavender

Hat Stripe – Orange, Blender

Pumpkin – Orange, Blender

Broom – Beige, Gray, Blender

Lollypop – Sugar Almond Pink, Peach Pink

Bow – Violet, English Lavender

Bow – Peach Pink, Blender

I die cut the Spider Web die set with double-sided adhesive foam. I placed the spider web foam piece in the center of the card layer making sure to add two ghosts slightly behind the spider web foam piece before fully adhering it to the card.

I also die cut the spider web with black cardstock and glued it to a piece of acetate. I cut the acetate along the outside edges of the black spider web until all of the excess acetate was removed from the spider web. I set this piece aside and then filled the spider web foam piece with the Spooky Night Clay Confetti and the Monster Mash Clay Confetti. Once the spider web was filled with confetti, I glued the black spider web acetate piece to the top of the spider web foam piece to enclose all of the shaker pieces. Be sure to watch my video to see this process in action.

I added die cut the spider from the die that comes with the spider web die and colored it with Violet and English Lavender Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. I added the spider to the center of the web.

I added the sentiment “boo” from the Boo Script die set and then added this card layer to a piece of black cardstock that measures 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″. I added the final layer to an A2 size card base.

My next card features the Cauldron Shaker Die Set, Layered Candy Corn Stencil, and the Scalloped Circle Die Set.

Halloween Card - Cauldron Shaker Card - Pretty Pink Posh

I started by creating the candy corn background for my card. I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ and used the Layered Candy Corn Stencil with the following inks: Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide ink, Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide ink, and Scrapbook.com Fog ink.

Next, I cut a Scallop Circle die from orange and white cardstock. I used the orange scallop frame and the white inside piece for the circle on my card.

I used the Cauldron Shaker die and made a shaker for the centerpiece of my card. Be sure to watch my video to see how I made the cauldron shaker!

I added the Halloween Party Clay Confetti to the inside of the cauldron. The confetti pieces are so much fun with pieces that look like real candy! My favorites are the ones that look like real candy corn! I glued some of the confetti pieces above the cauldron so it would look like the pieces are boiling out of it.

I used a sentiment from the Halloween Envelopes stamp set and die cut it with the banner die from the coordinating die set. I tied twine around the lower portion of the card layer and then added it to an A2 size orange card base.
